The Unnecessary Outcry

THE UNNECESSARY OUTCRY

There is no such throne.

in response to ‘Beadbi, “Bride” Sits on Throne with Back to Guru Ji in Glen Cove Gurdwara, NY’
&
‘Disgusting and utterly shameful act of Bridal photo shoot inside Sikh Gurdwara in US’

In a world riddled with atrocities that many of us cannot fathom, there seems to be a huge worldwide outcry on a situation that does not deem such attention;

The majority of the outcry is from the Sikh community at large. The atrocity proclaimed in the above noted blog posts is that a young woman, during a joyous occasion, unbeknownst to her, did something deemed disrespectful to the Sikh faith.

Firstly I write to Sonal Parmar; congratulations to you and your husband on your marriage, I apologize that many members of the Sikh faith and/or members of the Sikh community and diaspora around the world have taken what was nothing more than a mistake as an act of terrorism against Sikhism.

Some of the core tenets of Sikhism are equality, acceptance, love, and forgiveness. These tenets have been all but forgotten by the authors of these posts and the hate-mongering commenters. Instead of approaching the bride and photographer with kindness, they attack them with ridicule and presumptions of ignorance and stupidity. Sikhism, built off the foundations of honour, to stand against tyranny and injustice, was not present in the souls of these authors and so-called patrons of the faith.

sigur rós – valtari mystery film experiment

Intro:
sigur rós is by far one of my favourite bands ever, the music these guys come up with and how they perform is simply breathtaking. Their music and visual art is always open to interpretation which is almost the band’s signature. It is as though they provide us with an empty canvas asking to be painted.

The valtari mystery film experiment is just that, a mystery film experiment. They wanted to have a visual representation of what other artists, in this case filmmakers, felt a certain song represented. Ingenius collaboration of artists in my opinion.

Here is what is said about the valtari mystery film experiment on the official sigur rós website;

the valtari mystery film experiment

sigur rós have given a dozen film makers the same modest budget and asked them to create whatever comes into their head when they listen to songs from the band’s new album valtari. the idea is to bypass the usual artistic approval process and allow people utmost creative freedom. among the filmmakers are ramin bahrani, alma har’el and john cameron mitchell.

“we never meant our music to come with a pre-programmed emotional response. we don’t want to tell anyone how to feel and what to take from it. with the films, we have literally no idea what the directors are going to come back with. none of them know what the others are doing, so hopefully it will be interesting.” – sigur rós, may 2012

Resentment and Absolution.

Granted; my father and I had quite the rocky relationship this past year…to say the least. He passed away a couple of weeks ago and left with little remorse for the fall outs he caused during his lifetime. Forgetting the damages he caused in his relationships with others, how he could leave this world without patching things up with his son are beyond me. For the mistakes in the relationship were not my doing but ultimately his. And now I am left with no father and a boat load of resentment. An ironical statement as I write this post onboard a ferry as I head back to my home town to scatter his ashes. Truth be told I really did not want to participate in this event with my two siblings and mother…

Have you ever had a ‘glimpse’?

Not sure what else to call it except a ‘glimpse’… You know, you are driving or watching t.v. or washing the dishes and all of a sudden you realize you are in a day dream and you can choose to keep dreaming. The things you see, usually of a future setting are profound to your life in some manner.

I was driving earlier today, from one errand to another, and I was struck by such a ‘glimpse’…what a feeling. If I was a snake who shed his skin for the very first time, that very moment when the new day’s sunlight touches my newly earthed scales, that is what it felt like during this ‘glimpse’. How else can I describe it? If I was Superman nearly defeated, only to soak the Sun’s light one more time, that feeling of knowing that you are Superman and capable of anything if you try, that was my feeling today.

Though I am not ready to share what future in my life I saw, but now more than ever, this innate feeling of helping others, will be made true. I have strived in my life to attain my dreams, even before this ‘glimpse’, it felt like this is what I was meant to do; help others. I do not want to succumb to any other dream, I only have one.

About Me
In self-reflection; I can honestly say all that is good in my life has been a direct result of my artistic expression. Be it through writing poetry, prose, or philosophy, through painting or photography, or through filmmaking, art saved my life and it can save yours.
