Sigur Rós – ‘Untitled 4 (njósnavélin)’

I was laying in my bed having a crappy day a few years ago…when I decided to watch a movie, settled on Vanilla Sky, loved the movie, but discovered a whole new genre of music that forever changed my life and inspired my art more than anything else before.

Shoegaze, Dream Pop, Post-rock, Ambient, Art Rock, whatever you want to call it, it is hard to mention this genre without people talking about Sigur Rós.

What amazing music, to this day, it blows me away.

This song in particular is one of my favourites, I’d post the lyrics, if they existed…explanation here.

Also posting a video of how they play their music live, amazing how they combine instruments, playing your guitar like a violin, who would have thought?

These guys let me use this track in my first feature length film; A Warrior’s Religion, for which I am forever grateful.

Check out more from Sigur Rós.

Hammock – ‘Shipwrecked (Flat on Your Back)’

Ever feel like going for a long drive through the country with no destination in mind? Just on a quest for some soul searching? Then this is the song for you as you drive…

Check out more from Hammock.

Lyrics;

On a cold night
We lay down
Under starlight
We breakdown

On a cold night
We lay down
Under starlight
We breakdown
Spend our whole life
Seeking shelter
Til the last time,
Gone forever…

On a cold night
We lay down
Under starlight
We breakdown
Spend our whole life
Seeking shelter
Til the last time,
Gone forever…

The Leisure Society – ‘We Were Wasted’

I don’t know why, but when I hear this song, I find myself in awe. This is the song I’d want played at my funeral.

Check out more from The Leisure Society.

Lyrics;

And I
Will close my eagle eyes
Hang up my skin to dry

We were wasted son
We were wasted all
On the ride
From the nightclub
To our drive
All the way we sank

And from
The flat above the square
We watch our comrades bare
Their teeth, their souls, their flesh

We were wasted son
We were wasted all
On the ride
From the nightclub
To our drive
All the way we sang

‘I strive for perfection’

I strive for perfection,
but there is no such thing
I listen to music,
so beautiful, how it will bring
Time…alone the notes will play
natural, but only a moment to stay
Weather so mine, a day of moments
climbed to the top of this trail
Betrayal…
Now I wonder this, with notes that rhyme
for a gentlemen, not yet seen his prime
Alive he sits in an empty room
Alive he sits on a stool
hands of pain, gifted, yet thought of shame
Can one recover?
of all he lost?
Pieces float upon his mind
He left behind…
Eyes of sadness, but bring hope
Kind…
he picked up the broken glass
alone in class
One of a creation
So made to accomplish
the notes began to rhyme
so did time
so did time…
